Why dentistry?

Mike did not come to dentistry as a clinician. He came to it as an operator accustomed to looking closely at how people work, where time is being lost, and how technology can remove unnecessary friction.

What stood out about dentistry was the contrast between the sophistication of the clinical care and the amount of administrative work still being completed manually.

Dentists and hygienists spend much of their day having detailed clinical conversations, examining patients, and making treatment decisions. Yet the information from those appointments often still has to be reconstructed afterward through typing, dictation, templates, and memory.

The opportunity was not simply to make note-taking faster. It was to build technology capable of understanding the clinical conversation and turning it into useful, structured information while the dental team continues working naturally.

That became the foundation of ChartAI.

Building around the dental practice

Before determining what ChartAI should become, Mike and the General Technologies team spent time listening to dental professionals and observing how practices actually operate.

Feedback from more than 200 dentists and dental professionals helped shape the product. The team learned that accuracy alone was not enough. ChartAI also had to accommodate different providers, appointment types, clinical preferences, practice-management systems, and documentation standards.

It had to work in real operatories — around masks, equipment, multiple speakers, and the pace of a busy practice.

That work led ChartAI beyond basic transcription. The platform is being developed to understand dental conversations, create structured clinical notes, support customized templates, and connect the patient record with the additional workflows that begin inside the operatory.

From documentation to an AI-native dental practice

Mike sees clinical documentation as the beginning rather than the endpoint.

A patient conversation contains information that can affect treatment planning, referrals, follow-up, scheduling, billing, insurance, patient communication, and the wider operation of the practice. Most dental software stores that information but does very little with it.

The longer-term opportunity is to create an AI-native dental practice in which software does more than wait for someone to enter data or click through menus. It should understand what is happening, organize the information, and help move appropriate work forward.

ChartAI begins with one of the most immediate and persistent problems in dentistry: the time required to create complete clinical records. From there, the goal is to help practices reduce administrative work while maintaining clinical oversight, accuracy, and patient trust.

Operating experience

Mike brings more than 30 years of experience building and operating businesses across automotive retail and leasing, financial services, technology, and artificial intelligence.

Before joining General Technologies, he co-founded and served as CEO of MintList Technologies, an AI-enabled automotive marketplace. MintList won the New Ventures BC Competition, raised venture financing, and received international recognition for its technology.

That experience reinforced a lesson that now informs the development of ChartAI: meaningful automation must be designed around the way an industry actually works. Technology adoption does not happen because a product is technically impressive. It happens when the product solves a recurring problem and fits naturally into the user's day.

At General Technologies, Mike works alongside clinicians, advisors, and the product-development team to translate that principle into practical tools for dental professionals.
